HANCEVILLE, Ala. — Wallace State Community College’s Volleyball team finished as runner-up at the 2024 Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) Volleyball Championship held this weekend at Sand Mountain Park & Amphitheater in Albertville.
Wallace State won their first-round match 3-0 against Bishop State Community College on Friday before taking on Enterprise State Community College (ESCC) in the next round, falling 3-0 with set scores of 25-21, 25-18, and 26-24.
The Lions fought back the next day, defeating Calhoun Community College (3-0), Snead State Community College (3-0) and Lurleen B. Wallace Community College (3-1), to make it to the championship round on Sunday, setting up a rematch against Enterprise State.
ESCC won the first two sets 25-23 and 25-17 before the Lions rallied to win the third set 25-21. The fourth game ended with the Boll Weevils on top, 25-23 and the ACCC title.
Wallace State players Chloe Jackson, Rachel Mecklenburg and Abby McDonald were named to the ACCC All-Tournament Team. Jackson a sophomore from Athens, had 51 kills, seven service aces and 20 digs. Mecklenburg, a freshman from Madison, had 31 kills, six service aces and 49 digs. McDonald, a freshman from Cullman, had 97 digs in the tournament and two service aces.
The Lions finished the season with a 37-11 overall record and 11-3 conference record. Head Coach Randy Daniel’s overall record stands at a historic 670-138, making him the winningest coach in the ACCC.
