HOLLY POND, Ala. – After traveling to Fyffe a week ago, the Holly Pond Broncos returned home this week for another region game with Collinsville. The Broncos made some big plays and put some points on the board late in the game, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the early Panthers lead and Holly Pond fell to Collinsville 56-32.
The Broncos struck first when Boston Gibbs ran one into the end zone from 5 yards out for a touchdown and on the ensuing two-point try, Sawyer Olinger hit Gibbs in the end zone to give Holly Pond an early, 8-0 lead. However, the Panthers responded with a pair of touchdowns to move in front 14-8 by the start of the second quarter.
A scoop and score by the Panthers’ defense extended Collinsville’s lead to 21-8 early in the second quarter and the Broncos went into the locker room trailing by 13 at the halftime break.
The Panthers continued adding to their lead in the third and Holly Pond went into the fourth quarter trailing 42-8. The Broncos wouldn’t go down quietly, cutting the lead to 42-16 early in the fourth with an 83-yard touchdown pass from Olinger to Gibbs.
Olinger scored on touchdown runs of 50 and 48 yards later in the fourth quarter to put some more points on the board for Holly Pond, but it was too little, too late and the Broncos fell to the Panthers 56-32.
Holly Pond will wrap up its regular season on the road at Cleveland next week.
