Obituary: Robert Albert Jochum

Robert Albert Jochum, 77, of Hanceville, passed away on October 20, 2024, in Cullman, AL at Cullman Regional Medical Center. 

Robert will be remembered as a master of jokes with an unmatched ability to lighten the mood of any gathering with laughter. 

Robert graduated from Hanceville High School in 1965, served two years in the National Guard and later furthered his education at Bessemer Technical College. He dedicated over 40 years of his career to ABC Drummond Company as a mechanic/welder where he was known for his practical jokes and hilarious nature. He would often say he was a “Jack of all trades, but master of none.” 

Robert was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hanceville, AL. He kept in close contact with his friends from school, cousins and co-workers who always provided strength and comfort through the years. 

He enjoyed hobby farming and spending quality time with his family, who were the center of his world. 

Robert leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, survived by his wife of 51 years, Elizabeth Roden Jochum; children, Shana (Blake) Hice, Jonathon (Ruth Ann) Jochum, and Kristen (Billy) Barnett; and four grandchildren, Avery and Hayden Hice, and June and Emmett Jochum. He was preceded in death by his brother, Carl Jochum; parents, Albert and Lillian Jochum; and his infant daughter, Gina Jochum. 

Robert’s life will be celebrated and remembered on October 24, 2024 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hanceville. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. with service immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hanceville, AL in his memory.
