FAIRVIEW, Ala. – After handline Priceville 48-21 last week, the Fairview Aggies were back home at Dafford Smith Stadium Friday night for a matchup against Sardis. The Lions didn’t make things easy on the Aggies but in the fourth quarter, Fairview was able to fend off a late push from Sardis and collect a 38-18 win to remain unbeaten.
A 60-yard touchdown run by Carson Jones gave the Aggies an early, 7-0 lead less than a minute into the opening quarter but the Lions responded with a scoring drive of their own to get points on the board. After scoring a touchdown, Sardis’ extra point attempt was blocked, keeping Fairview in front 7-6. Early in the second quarter, Aggies quarterback Kolt Redding hit Zayden Cruce down field for a 49-yard touchdown pass to make it a 14-6 game. It didn’t take long for Fairview to add to its lead. After a Sardis punt pinned the Aggies inside their own 5-yard line, Jake Harper took a handoff 93 yards for a touchdown to stretch the lead to 21-6 with seven minutes remaining in the first half.
Harper’s big first half wasn’t over, and he took another handoff to the house from 70 yards out with just 22 seconds on the clock to give Fairview a commanding, 28-6 lead at the halftime break.
The Lions were able to find the end zone midway through the third quarter to trim the lead to 28-12 and at the start of the fourth, another Sardis touchdown pass made it a 28-18 game with just over 11 minutes to play. Redding drilled a 38-yard field goal to extend the Aggie lead to 31-18 with 5:38 on the clock and a Jace Stevens interception gave the ball back to Fairview just a few plays later. Harper sprinted down the sideline for 50 yards and a touchdown on the next play, securing a 38-18 win over the Lions.
The Aggies improve to 7-0 with the win and they’ll be back home next week to host a region game with East Limestone.
