DECATUR, Ala. – After handling Columbia for homecoming a week ago, the Bearcats were back on the road Friday night for a region matchup at Decatur. It didn’t take long for Cullman to take control in this one. The ‘Cats jumped out to a 28-0 lead in the first half and cruised the rest of the way to collect a 42-14 win.

Big gains on passes from quarterback Preston Gay to Colten Borden and Grayson Gay kept the chains moving early for Cullman’s but a fumble on the 1-yard line cut the scoring opportunity short and gave the ball to the Red Raiders. Later in the first, a 17-yard touchdown run by Gay got the first points on the board for the Bearcats and JD Ellerbree drilled the extra point to make it 7-0 midway through the first quarter.

Cullman’s defense blew up an option play on the ensuing possession and Troy Mann recovered the ball inside the 5-yard line to set up another great scoring opportunity. A few plays later, Cooper Loftin punched one into the end zone from a yard out to stretch the lead to 14-0. The ‘Cats weren’t done scoring in the opening period. A big gain on a pass to Hudson Wilhite moved Cullman into Decatur territory and a couple plays later, the Bearcats added to their lead with a touchdown pass from Gay to Borden to make it a 21-0 game going into the second quarter.

A 12-yard touchdown pass to Cooper Ogstad put Cullman in front 28-0 with four minutes remaining in the first half and the Bearcats went into the locker room at the break leading by four touchdowns.

A 5-yard touchdown run from Loftin extended the lead to 35-0 midway through the third quarter and an interception by Kamron Myers on the ensuing possession gave the ball right back to Cullman. Later in the fourth, a 55-yard touchdown run by Loftin, his third of the night, made it a 42-0 game with eight minutes remaining. The Red Raiders were able to get some points on the board in the final minutes of the game, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the early Cullman lead and the Bearcats returned home with a 42-14 region win over Decatur.

Cullman improves to 5-4 with the win and the ‘Cats will be back home next week to wrap up the regular season against Buckhorn.
