HOLLY POND, Ala. – Holly Pond’s Guy Hunt Library has a special event lined up for Oct. 24, at 10:30 a.m. – a special book signing with local author Marlena Smith.
A 2004 Holly Pond High School graduate, Smith has deep roots in the community and has been writing since she was in grade school.
Librarian Shiela Wilhite said Smith draws inspiration from her own small-town life and crafts heartfelt stories of love and community.
“Reading is an essential skill that plays a critical role in lifelong functioning,” Wilhite said. “Book signings provide a wonderful opportunity to encourage readers to explore new adventures within the pages of a book. For the library, these events add a fun, interactive element that allows patrons to meet authors and perhaps discover new resources available at the library. Authors, who pour their hearts into creating stories across all genres, relish the chance to connect with readers at book signings, sharing their passion and dedication to their craft.”
Wilhite said Smith has had a deep love for writing since a very young age. She lives just a short distance from the Guy Hunt Library, making her a cherished local author.
“Marlena Smith reached out to the Guy Hunt Library in May about doing a book signing,” Wilhite said. “After communicating over the busy summer months, we were able to schedule her book signing for Oct. 24. The library is excited to host this event for Marlena and provide patrons with the opportunity to discover some great new reads.”
Smith’s books include “Ella,” “The Intruder,” “A Momentary Glance” and “The Power of Love.” Both are clean romance novellas that reflect the charm and warmth of her experiences. Smith spends her days working with churches to help them grow, and her nights weaving tales that resonate with readers.
Meet Smith Thursday, Oct. 24, at 10:30 a.m. at the Guy Hunt Library at 60 Lions Park Road in Holly Pond.
