CULLMAN, Ala. – As temperatures creep lower, households can probably expect to see electricity prices creep higher. Energy usage often increases in the colder months. Families spend more time at home, safe from the chilly temps and, in turn, use more energy and power to live in and heat their homes.
When the cooler months roll around, local electricity providers may recommend households apply for any of the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) rebate programs to prepare for and potentially mitigate energy usage and problem areas.
“Regarding our programs, we do offer several energy efficiency rebate programs through TVA EnergyRight. All of these key programs are linked on our website,” said Cullman Electric Cooperative Communications and Marketing Manager Lindsey Dossey. “We recommend that members start with the DIY Energy Assessment.”
The DIY Energy Assessment is just that – a homeowner’s guide to self-assessing their home for potential energy waste and leaks. The assessment takes owners through the most common areas of energy loss, often leading to immediate energy savings when corrected.
Said Dossey, “This is the easiest and cheapest way to start looking at ways to cut energy costs.”
After the DIY assessment, homeowners can access TVA EnergyRight rebates, the TVA EnergyRight Quality Contractor Network and the EnergyRight Marketplace.
Available rebates can be found at www.energyright.com/residential/rebates and include incentives for simple fixes such as $50 rebate for an annual tune-up of a home’s HVAC system.
“This is a great time of year to get a system tune-up – while temperatures are mild and before the weather turns cold,” Dossey said.
Homeowners can also find rebates for updating a home’s insulation throughout the attic, walls and floor, envelope air sealing or, in some cases, a full HVAC system upgrade, depending on the home’s needs.
In order to receive TVA EnergyRight rebates, homeowners must have all repairs and modifications completed by an approved contractor. The Quality Contractor Network gives homeowners the ability to access hundreds of licensed and insured contractors trained to meet TVA’s quality guidelines in the local area. Contractors can be searched by zip code and proximity.
The EnergyRight Marketplace is an area where homeowners can search for and purchase new and energy efficient appliances. Appliances can be searched by price as well as energy usage.
