CULLMAN, Ala. – The sweet smell of candied apples and cotton candy float in the air as the shrill ringing of shrieks and shouts echo through the Cullman County Fairgrounds. The fair is back, running until Oct. 12. The nearly two-week affair is an annual favorite in the community, not only because of the exhibits, games and pageants, but also because of the thrilling rides and daring dives.
Student Day will take place today, Monday, Oct. 7, from noon-5 p.m. Admission is free for all area students during those hours.
Senior Citizens Day will take place Wednesday, Oct. 9, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., with free admission for all area seniors.
On both days, tickets must be purchased separately. Tickets are $1.50 each, with most attractions requiring 3-4 tickets.
Regular admission to the Cullman County Fair is $8 for those aged 10 and older; children aged 9 and younger get in free. Arm bands are available for purchase in lieu of individual tickets at the fair’s main ticketing gate. The bands include unlimited rides for the entirety of a one-day visit. Arm bands are $25 Monday-Thursday and $30 Friday-Sunday.
Rides that require three tickets are listed below and will cost $4.50 per person, per ride:
- Red Barron (minimum height 36”, maximum height 54”)
- Teacups (minimum height 42” w/ adult 36”)
- Astro Wheel (minimum height 48” w/ adult 42”)
- Rock N Tug (minimum height 34” w/ adult 42”)
- Rumble in the Jungle (minimum height 32” w/ adult 36”)
- Cosmic Commander (minimum height 36”, maximum height 42”)
- Space Bug (minimum height 36”, maximum height 54”)
- Orient Express (minimum height 36” w/ adult 48”)
- Baja Buggy (minimum height 32” w/ adult 36”)
- Dino Train (minimum height 36”)
- Mini Pirate Ship (minimum height 36” w/ adult 42”)
Rides that require four tickets are listed below and are $6 person:
- Samurai (minimum height 48”)
- Alien Abduction (minimum height 42”)
- Star Scream (minimum height 48”)
- Rock O Plane (minimum height 48”)
- Matterhorn (minimum height 42”)
- Hell Taxi (minimum height 48”)
- Oxygen (minimum height 48”)
- Alakazam(minimum height 48”)
- Trooper (minimum height 42”)
- Tilt A Whirl (minimum height 26”)
The only ride that will cost more than $6 per ride is Alter Ego. It requires six tickets, or $9.50, per ride.
