WALNUT GROVE, Ala. – The Cold Springs Eagles were back on the road Friday night for a region battle at West End and they returned home with a 26-12 win over the Patriots.
After a scoreless first quarter, Cold Springs got on the board first when Matt Williams took a handoff into the end zone for a touchdown and Mason Gable punched in the two-point conversion to make it 8-0. West End answered with a touchdown on the ensuing possession to trim the lead to 8-6 but Gable got loose for a 39-yard touchdown run to put the Eagles in front 14-6 going into the locker room at halftime.
Another Patriots touchdown made it a 14-12 game early in the third quarter, but Williams’ second scoring run of the night stretched the lead back out to 20-12 going into the fourth. Williams found the end zone for a third time early in the fourth quarter to put Cold Springs ahead 26-12 and the Eagles’ defense took it from there, keeping West End off the board the rest of the way to secure a 26-12 region win over the Patriots.
Cold Springs improves to 4-3 with the win and the Eagles will be back on the road next week to face Coosa Christian.
