HAYDEN, Ala. – The West Point Warriors were back on the road Friday night for a non-region matchup with the Hayden Wildcats and despite leading for nearly all of the second half, the Warriors were unable to return home with the win. The Wildcats drove 91 yards for a go-ahead score in the final two minutes of the game to edge West Point 16-14.

Hayden put together a scoring drive midway through the first quarter to move in front 8-0 but the Warriors responded later in the first when Ollie Howell took a handoff and punched it into the end zone from a yard out. Julio Fuentes split the uprights with the extra point and cut the lead to 8-7 with just 25 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

Quarterback Hunter Hensley used his legs to find the end zone midway through the second quarter and gave West Point a 14-8 lead going into the locker room at halftime.

After a scoreless third quarter, the Warriors punted the ball back to Hayden with just over three minutes on the clock, downing the ball inside the Wildcats’ 10-yard line. However, Hayden was able to put together a 91-yard touchdown drive to tie the game at 14 and punched in the two-point conversion to take a 16-14 lead. The Warriors were unable to answer the score in the final moments of the game and Hayden held on to win it 16-14.

West Point falls to 0-5 with the loss and the Warriors will be back home next week for a region game against Priceville.
