HALEYVILLE, Ala. – After opening up region play with a 7-6 win over Fultondale last week, the Good Hope Raiders were back on the road Friday night for a rainy, regional matchup at Haleyville. The score was knotted at 7 at halftime but the Raiders outscored the Lions 20-0 in the second half to pull away with a 27-7 win.

Haleyville got on the board first with a half back pass that led to a touchdown, giving the Lions a 7-0 lead midway through the first quarter. Good Hope answered late in the second quarter when Tyler Cone lined up under center near the goal line and pushed his way into the end zone for a touchdown, tying the game at 7 going into the halftime break.

Cone’s second touchdown run of the night put the Raiders in front 13-7 later in the third quarter and Mason Drake ran one into the end zone from 5 yards out to make it a 19-7 game early in the fourth. Cone found Tucker Screws with a pass in the end zone to pick up the two-point conversion and extended Good Hope’s lead to 21-7.

Cone put the finishing touches on the win later in the fourth when he broke free for a 57-yard touchdown run, his third of the night, stretching the lead to 27-7 with five minutes to play. Neither team was able to get on the board again the rest of the way and the Raiders returned home with a 27-7 region win over the Lions.

Good Hope improves to 3-0 with the win and the Raiders will be back on the road next week to face Cordova.
