Inez Mae McDonald, age 99, of Hanceville, Alabama passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2024. She was born on May 11, 1925, to Valera and James “Albert” Smith.

Inez was born into an industrious farming family and spent her early educational years between Center Hill and Gold Ridge Schools. She started styling hair as a teenager and continued that passion for more than 70 years.

She met and married her husband of 61 years in 1956 at a dance and it was love at first sight for both of them. They dated two years and married in Oct. 1958. Their son Marty was born the following Oct. and life blossomed for them as they continued their life together.

Soon after they would start to work on Bethlehem Methodist Church, which started as a labor of love and became a life of ministry for David and Inez.

Inez may be best known for her work on the city council of Dodge City, or the banana bread that she would bring to those in need.

Inez is survived by her son; Dr. Marty (Lynn) McDonald, sister; Vera Brown, and grandchildren; Brett (Shannon) McDonald, Derek (Candice) McDonald, and Dr Ben (Carley) McDonald, as well as three great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years David McDonald, her parents Albert and Valera Smith, and her sister Era Bowling.

A visitation for Inez will be held Friday, Sept. 13, 2024 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Moss-Service Funeral Home, 1901 2nd Avenue, N.W., Cullman, Alabama 35055. A celebration of life graveside service will occur Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Bethlehem Cemetery, Glory Hill Road.
