HOLLY POND, Ala. – Hoping to draw more traffic to the library, the Guy Hunt Library in Holly Pond will hold its first and, hopefully annual, Used Book Market Sept. 27-28 at Holly Pond Town Hall.
“We are hoping this will become an annual event due to the Guy Hunt Library being on a road that is not frequented much. The Holly Pond School is located before reaching the library entrance, so most of the traffic is before even reaching us,” shared Shiela Wilhite of the Guy Hunt Library. “With that being said, we hope that being on the heavier traffic road (U.S. Highway 278) will entice more people to stop and find some good reads.”
Patrons are encouraged to make either monetary donations to the library, or donations of gently used books to the sale. By dropping the previously read books off at the library or town hall, book lovers can simultaneously declutter and restock their stories and shelves. Book donations can be dropped off at Holly Pond Town Hall during normal business hours prior to Sept. 27.
Proceeds from the sale will help the library complete various projects and assist in the weekly programs it holds. Crocheting classes and book signings with local authors are commonly held at the library, while Tuesday’s Children’s Storytime is held weekly at 10:30 a.m., consistently drawing large numbers of visitors to the library. Storytime is often accompanied by a coordinating craft and sometimes snack, both of which are provided by the library at no cost to visitors.
The Guy Hunt Library’s Used Book Market will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 27, and continue until 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28’s sale will also open at 10:30 a.m. and run until business stops flowing.
“We would love to stay again until 4 p.m.; keep us busy,” Wilhite smiled. “It will be a perfect opportunity to find some used books without paying full price for them!”
Holly Pond Town Hall is located at 10885 U.S. Highway 278 E in Holly Pond.
