ADDISON, Ala. – Addison hosted region foe Shoals Christian at A.G. Hicks Stadium Friday night and Addison dominated the Flame from start to finish, winning 51-0. Friday night’s win is also the 100th for Addison Head Coach David Smothers. Coach Smothers now sports a 100-42 record in 13 years as the Bulldogs head coach.

After the Flame received the opening kickoff, they gained 4 yards on 3 plays and punted to the Bulldogs. On Addison’s second play from scrimmage, QB Kaden Dyson found WR Judah Wilkins for a 61-yard touchdown throw and catch. The extra point was no good and with 9:43 to go in the first quarter, Addison led 6-0.

The Flame opted to go for it on their own 44-yard line on 4th and 1 and the Flame ball carrier was destroyed in the backfield, losing a yard thanks to the Dawg Pound Defense. This gave the Dawgs great field possession at the Flame 43-yard line. Three plays later, RB Zayne Smith rambled 35 yards for the Bulldogs second touchdown of the night.  Wyatt Anderson kicked the extra point and with 5:42 to go in the first quarter, Addison led 13-0.

On the Flame’s very next play, Bulldog LB Jaxson Williams stepped in front of pass and intercepted it. Williams returned the ball to the Flame 27-yard line. Coach Smothers then rewarded Mr. Williams for the great defensive play. Dyson handed the ball off to Williams and he rumbled 27 yards for the touchdown to make it 19-0.

After an exchange of possessions, Williams showed nice hands for a LB and picked off another Flame pass. Williams returned it 32 yards back to the Flame 33-yard line. Three plays later, RB Trennon Burns ran 5 yards for another Bulldog touchdown. Anderson kicked the extra point and Addison led 26-0 with 10:54 to go in the second quarter.

Addison got the ball back after stopping the Flame on another fourth down attempt and it didn’t take them long to score again. Dyson sprinted his way 75 yards for another Addison touchdown. The extra point was no good and Addison was dominating 32-0.

On Addison’s next possession, QB Elijah Roberts found Wilkins again, this time for a 60-yard catch and run touchdown. Again, no good on the extra point and with 3:18 to go in the first half, Addison led 38-0 after only running 13 plays and went into the locker room leading 38-0 at the break.

The second half had a running clock, agreed upon by both coaching staffs, and Addison played everybody on the roster. Addison took its opening drive 7 plays for 50 yards for a touchdown. QB Scout Flynn ran four times for 29 yards and found Carter Pratt for a 7-yard completion. Wilkins capped off the drive running it in from 9 yards out for his third touchdown of the night. Anderson kicked the extra point and Addison led 45-0 with 7:38 remaining in the third.

Neither team could do a lot offensively in the second half, until Wyatt Anderson scampered 35 yards for the final Bulldog touchdown to close out a 51-0 win for Addison

Addison Head Coach David Smothers,

“Very proud of our guys and I know you are going to ask me about my 100th win but like I said before, this is just another ballgame. As a coach you don’t get any reward from an individual accomplishment. It is all about the team. I could not have won any game on my own, it is all about the players. I have been blessed to have some really good athletes and just great kids in general while I have coached here. I was glad the way we, as a team, handled this game just like any other. We were supposed to win this game, and the young men took care of business tonight. Now, on to next week at Cherokee.”
