CURRY, Ala. – After handing Hanceville a 48-30 last week, Cold Springs was back on the road Thursday night to take on Curry. The Eagles put a pair of scores on the board in the first quarter to build an early lead and after a scoreless second and third, Cold Springs put together a methodical touchdown drive in the fourth to seal a 24-14 win over the Yellow Jackets.

After punting on their opening possession, the Eagles recovered a Curry fumble to get their offense back on the field. Just a few plays later, quarterback Ethan Day connected with Cason Alexander through the air for a 25-yard touchdown and Matt Williams punched in the two-point conversion to give Cold Springs an 8-0 lead. The Yellow Jackets responded with a scoring drive of their own, cutting the lead to 8-7 midway through the first quarter.

The Eagles struck back with a big play on the ensuing drive when Alexander took a pass from Day and went 66 yards down to the 4-yard line. A couple plays later, Day found Blake Phillips in the end zone for a touchdown and Williams ran in the two-point conversion to put Cold Springs in front 16-7 late in the first quarter. Both defenses settled in after that, and after a scoreless second quarter, the Eagles went into the locker room at halftime leading 16-7.

Neither team was able to get any points on the board in the third quarter and Cold Springs went to the fourth maintaining a 9-point lead. However, the Eagles’ offense took over possession deep in their own territory early in the fourth and put together a long, methodical scoring drive to extend their lead. Day found Breydon Hallmon down the field on a fourth down to move the chains for Cold Springs and after Williams took a handoff 24 yards for a touchdown, Tycen Kilgo punched in the two-point conversion to make it a 24-7 game with just over three minutes to play.

The Yellow Jackets were able to answer quickly with a touchdown to trim the lead to 24-14 but on the ensuing possession, the Eagles were able to run out the clock and improve to 2-0 with a 24-14 win over Curry.

Cold Springs will be back home to host Susan Moore next week.
