CULLMAN, Ala. – A local traveling vintage shop is taking Cullman by storm and procuring vintage clothing and vinyl records for the sustainable fashion crowd. The duo behind Third Rock Revivals, Matt Burns and Skylar King, travel the county and state in search of the perfect throwback goods to stock the far-out fashion lover’s closet and pique the interest of clothing collectors.

Karma’s Coffee House opens its doors to the resellers, allowing a venue to display and sell racks and tables of procured items from yard and estate sales, thrift shops, boutiques and even storage building cleanouts.

“Karma’s is really good to us. Around twice a year they give us the back space to set up and bring everything we find – everything from clothes to records, we’ve got towels and bedsheets, cassettes,” said Burns. “I never thought Cullman would be a town we could do this in.”

Speaking of his procurement methods, Burns shared his experience locating second – and third-hand vintage goods: “I go to a lot of estate sales. I check local thrift stores, but gone are the days when you could find quality vintage items in a thrift store.”

Reselling and giving new life to forgotten vintage threads has become a popular trend in recent years, in part due to increased public scrutiny of ethically sourced materials and sustainability.

“I get to meet kids who become three-, four- and five-year returning customers. They’re going to have these pieces of clothing for years,” Burns shared.
