Agriplex ‘Harvest to Home’ dinner Sept. 12

CULLMAN, Ala. –  Alabama Farm Credit will present the North Alabama Agriplex’s ninth annual Harvest to Home Local Foods Dinner and Auctions Thursday, Sept. 12, at 5 p.m. at the Wallace State Community College Dr. William F. PeinhardtConference Center in Hanceville.

Doors will open at 5, allowing guests to peruse the silent auction. The event supports the educational programs of the Agriplex. Catering by Chef Aaron Nichols and Wallace State Culinary Pride will feature fresh, locally sourced ingredients including a local beef flight with local shrimp from D&Y Farms. Vegetables and fruits will be sourced directly from local farmers across north Alabama.

Entertainment will be provided by Wallace State Jazz Band musicians. Sweet Grown Alabama Director Ellie Watson will emcee the event, highlighting the bounty of Alabama agriculture. Back by popular demand, professional auctioneer Kent Stanford will lead the fun in the live auction. This interactive part of the evening will feature 15 high-value items. Stefani Nelson of ALFA Insurance will sponsor the photo booth, so make sure to gather with friends to get a photo to remember the evening!

Tickets are on sale now for $50 per person or $500 for a corporate table of eight. Tickets may be purchased at the North Alabama Agriplex, 1714 Talley Ho St., Cullman, or at www.agriplex.org. Alabama Farm Credit is the event sponsor with Traditions Bank sponsoring the entertainment and Wallace State Community College providing the venue. Alabama Web Press is the print sponsor for the event. Local foods will be purchased through two sponsors First South Farm Credit and Sweet Grown Alabama.

Nichols and the Wallace State Culinary and Hospitality Management Program will provide a delicious local food experience with the first course featuring crisp and tangy watermelon gazpacho paired with crunchy sourdough, basil oil and feta. The second course will include specialty beef cuts from local farmers with Cullman shrimp served on a bed of blue corn grits and yellow squash frita. The dessert will conclude the meal with a peach crème brûlée and biscotti, flavored with ginger snap and white chocolate.

Opening the evening will be a one-of-a-kind silent auction featuring locally made items from cakes to woodworking as well as garden, farm and outdoor-themed baskets. All proceeds from the dinner and auction support the North Alabama Agriplex and its programs throughout north Alabama. Ticket sales are limited to 168.
