CLANTON, Ala. – Several clusters of showers and thunderstorms will move from northwest to southeast across Alabama today through Sunday. A few damaging wind gusts and hail are the main threats. Frequent lightning and heavy downpours will also occur. There is no tornado potential.
The first cluster will move across the northern 2/3 of the state this afternoon and evening. A few damaging wind gusts and hail are possible across the northern half of Alabama between 2 pm – 10 pm with the storms weakening south of Livingston – Clanton – Wedowee line. There is less confidence in the timing of additional storms both on Saturday and Sunday.
Another cluster of storms is expected move into northern Alabama after 12 pm Saturday and travel southward during the afternoon and evening hours. A few damaging wind gusts and hail are the main threats near and north of I-20.
On Sunday, scattered thunderstorms are forecast to develop statewide during the afternoon hours and continuing into the evening. A few damaging wind gusts and hail statewide are the main threats.
With plenty of outdoor activities going on this weekend, it would be wise to seek safe shelter before a storm reaches your location. When thunder roars, go indoors!
Drier and cooler weather will occur Monday through at least next Thursday.
