CULLMAN, Ala. – According to state testing in English/Language Arts, Math and Science from the 2023-2024 school year, Cullman City Schools remains in the Top 10 academically compared to the more than 100 districts across the state. The rankings and results factor in student performance in tests such as the Alabama Comprehensive Assessment Program (ACAP), ACT and Alternative Assessment.

Cullman City Schools had the fourth highest scores in the state with 77.8% of students proficient or advanced in English/Language Arts; eighth highest in the state with 60.5% of students proficient or advanced in Mathematics; and fifth highest in the state with 69% of students proficient or advanced in Science.

For the sake of comparison, the Alabama state proficiency average for English/Language Arts was 52.8%; the state proficiency average for Mathematics was 31.2%; and the state proficiency average for Science was 39%.

“I am pleased with our results,” Cullman City Schools Superintendent Kyle Kallhoff said. “In order to perform at a high level academically, you have to have eager students, supportive families and dedicated teachers. In Cullman, we are fortunate to have all three of these factors.”

Though Cullman remains among the best-performing districts in Alabama, Kallhoff said educators will not be resting on their laurels. Instead, they’ll be working to continue to improve in 2024-2025 and beyond.

“We are going to celebrate where we grew as a system and find solutions in the areas where there are opportunities for improvement,” he added. “We feel like our school system should be in the Top 5 academically every year. That is our target and that should be the expectation of our community.”
