CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman County Commission on Aging will host the 2024 Spaghetti Fundraiser at the Cullman Senior Center on Thursday, Aug. 22, from 4:30-8 p.m.
COA Director Stephanie Lawson said the event is an effort to raise funds to benefit the seven full-time senior centers located throughout the county, as well as to support their largest event of the year – the annual Christmas Party.
“This year we are anticipating approximately 1,000 seniors in our area to come together for a nice Christmas event with our local and some state leaders,” Lawson said. “Our centers not only provide opportunities for socialization Monday through Friday, but participants are able to receive a hot nutritious meal. Also, thanks to our volunteers we are able to serve homebound meals to some of the most vulnerable seniors in our county.”
Spaghetti dinners will be $15 a person.
“We work really hard to provide a sense of community for our seniors and they look forward to the events that we hold for them,” Lawson said. “This particular fundraiser is being sponsored by Peoples Bank and we truly appreciate their support. Our goal is to promote healthy aging and socialization and we could not do this without so many of our community partners.”
Lawson said the event will be a home-cooked spaghetti dinner that is a staff member’s family recipe.
“This is definitely not just a jar of sauce that we are serving,” Lawson said. “Our office staff has taste tested and given it a stamp of approval. We are looking forward for folks to coming and seeing for yourself.”
Lawson said they are encouraging the community to join them for a sit-down dinner event, but there will also be take-out options available.
“We know many are busy with school and daily life, so we will have a convenient drive-thru at the back of the building or come in and order your spaghetti to go,” Lawson said.
