HANCEVILLE, Ala. –  Wallace State Community College’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography program recently celebrated the success of 13 students in its OB/GYN pathway with a pinning ceremony attended by graduates, family and friends. As each graduate walked across the stage, the letters RDMS were added after their name, because all of them have already passed their OB/GYN registry exam and are registered sonographers.

Program Director April Sutherland described the class of students as caring.

“That is something that each and every one of you have in common,” she said. “You entered this program because you care about women and their babies. You cared about each other as you’ve grown together as women’s imaging specialists. You pushed through that first day of clinic because you cared more than you were scared.”

Lacey Reyer, left, was named valedictorian of the Class of 2024 for having the highest grade point average among her classmates. Presenting the award is Clinical Coordinator Sara Thompson.

Class president Lacey Reyer of Toney, said the last year has been rewarding and fulfilling, and thanked the instructors for making them better individuals and sonographers.

In addressing her classmates, Reyer referenced a verse from the book of Esther.

“In the midst of turmoil and fear of the future, Esther was encouraged with this statement, ‘Perhaps you were created for such a time as this,’” Reyer said. “As we enter into this new season of our lives, with all the changes and excitement and uneasiness of what is to come, I pray that we too can find hope and encouragement in these words. We have each been placed in this program, with these instructors and with each other for a reason. Every lecture, open lab scan, clinical day and late-night study session has equipped us for such a time as this. May we use these skills that we’ve learned to make an impact on every patient that we meet.”

Reyer was named valedictorian of the Class of 2024 for having the highest grade point average among her classmates.

Danielle Brady of Hoover received the Clinical Excellence Award.
