CULLMAN, Ala. – Local nonprofit First Source for Women (FSFW) on Thursday, Nov. 14, will host a new fundraiser, Tinsel & Timber. The event will feature a live and silent auction, live music, heavy hors d’oeuvres and an evening of fellowship while supporting the community’s young and underprepared mothers-to-be.
Since its inception in 2007, FSFW has offered pregnancy, childbirth and parenting resources, counseling and medical care to women in Cullman County and surrounding areas. In the nearly two decades of the ministry’s operations, volunteers and staff have provided thousands of pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, diapers, bottles, and hugs.
Services and resources offered by FSFW are funded through community donations. While individual contributions on FSFW’s website of $30 can afford one expectant mother a pregnancy test or $150 an ultrasound, a large portion of the nonprofit’s annual funds are brought in at the annual event.
In 2023, almost 700 clients for were seen for prenatal care and parenting classes. And 200 babies were born to FSFW clients last year, which saw a 50% increase in client numbers, appointments and infants born.
“We are very excited about this new fundraiser. Our client numbers have doubled over the last year and continue to rise,” said FSFW’s Carolanne Hopper. “We are hopeful that Tinsel and Timber will give us the opportunity to raise the funds needed to continue meeting the needs of women in our community.”
The inaugural Tinsel & Timber event will be held from 6-9 p.m., giving guests time to peruse auction items and enjoy the live music of Winslow Davis.
Said Hopper, “The silent auction will have giftable items to get a head start on Christmas shopping.”
Embracing the spirit of the season, the evening will feature a live auction with very specific items up for bid: 12 beautifully decorated Christmas trees.
Heavy hors d’oeuvres and appetizers will be served, and there will be a cash bar featuring festive signature cocktails.
Tickets for the event are priced at $50 each and include admission, unlimited bids in the live and silent auctions, refreshments and two tickets for door prize drawings to be held throughout the night. Tickets can be purchased at either FSFW location or at www.firstsourceforwomen.org.
