CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman Mayor Woody Jacobs at a recent city council meeting complimented a team of women he termed  Cullman’s “flower girls,” noting their skillful work in beautifying the city’s downtown streetscapes with hanging baskets, flower beds and landscaping.  Intrigued, The Tribune wanted to know more.

The teammates are Mandy Wood, Honey Reese and Natalie Jones, who work with the Right of Way Maintenance Department. They take care of flowerbeds around town, hanging baskets downtown, the city’s welcome signs and the greenhouse.

Cullman Marketing and Public Relations Director Mary Beth Sellers described a typical day for the team: “They start their day bright and early, watering the hanging baskets as the sun rises. Then they hop around throughout town weeding, watering and adding annual colorful flowers where needed.”

“I enjoy getting to meet all of the sweet citizens while we are on the job, talking about the beautification of the city and our shared love of flowers,” said team member Wood.

Jacobs told The Tribune, “The ladies who take care of all the flowers do a fantastic job in making our city look beautiful. We appreciate their hard work, knowledge and attention to detail. They take great pride in their work.”
