GOOD HOPE, Ala. The City of Good Hope will host its annual Back-to-School Bash on Thursday, Aug. 1 from 5-7 p.m. at Good Hope’s Municipal Park, located at 135 Municipal Drive.

“It’s that time of year again, back to school in just a few weeks. This is a fun time for the kids and us as mayor, council and employees to get to interact with our community,”  Good Hope Mayor Jerry Bartlett said. “Myself as a retired teacher, I see the importance of investing in children now because these are our future leaders.  We care about the teachers and students, and this is a small event we can do to let them know we care and wish them the best upcoming school year.”

“We are so excited for this event,” shared Good Hope City Clerk Lori Leusby. “We have several fun activities planned for the kids to enjoy.”

Activities on the roster for the bash include an interactive petting zoo, door prizes, free haircuts, games, snacks, free back-to-school pictures, inflatable water slides and a children’s favorite: a mobile arcade.

Children must be dry before visiting the mobile arcade or having their pictures taken. Leusby recommended bringing a towel and refraining from the waterworks until after children have played in the arcade and had a snapshot made.

The first 200 people at the event will receive a free bagged meal, and the first 150 students will receive a new Raiders-themed T-shirt to rock school spirit on the first day of school. The day’s door prizes have been donated by businesses and individuals in the Good Hope community. Prizes will be drawn for and handed out beginning at 6:30 p.m.; attendees must be present to win.

The event has added a new teacher giveaway. Upon entering the park, students will be asked to nominate their favorite teacher from Good Hope Primary, Elementary, Middle or High Schools. At the end of the event, one teacher will be drawn from Good Hope Primary and Elementary, and one teacher will be drawn from Good Hope Middle and High School’s nominated educators; those two chosen teachers will receive a gift from the City.

“Teachers do not have to present to win the teacher giveaway,” Leusby added.
