CULLMAN, Ala. – The new school year is quickly approaching, with Cullman City Schools commencing on Wednesday, Aug. 7 and Cullman County Schools following suit on Thursday, Aug. 8. The first day of school will be one of staggered attendance for both systems.
Cullman County Schools students with last names beginning with the letters A-K will attend on Aug. 8 and those with last names beginning with L-Z will attend on Aug. 9; all students will attend on Monday, Aug. 12. Likewise, for students enrolled in Head Start, Pre-K or kindergarten in Cullman City Schools, only boys will attend on Aug. 7, with only girls attending on Aug. 8; all those students will attend on Friday, Aug. 9. All city schools students in grades 1-12 will attend beginning Aug. 8.
Cullman City Schools Superintendent Kyle Kallhoff shared some important news about the system’s car line procedures. These procedures were enacted to ease the gridlock of traffic surrounding the schools, allowing vehicles to move more efficiently.
“For Cullman City Primary School parents, we are asking parents to have their name tag in place for both arrival and dismissal. This helps us ensure everyone is being dropped off and picked up at the same location,” Kallhoff said.
For parents and caregivers who drop off and pick up in East Elementary or Cullman Middle School car lines, those procedures have shifted as well.
“Cullman Middle School: Fourth Street will still be closed just north of Oak. Therefore, all traffic during dropoff and dismissal will exit north onto Fourth Street. This is the same pattern we used the last two weeks of school last year,” shared Kallhoff. “East Elementary: Due to moving fifth grade into the main building, fourth- through sixth-grade pickup will be in a different location.”
Before the pencils are sharpened and bows are placed, students are invited to walk into their classrooms and meet their new teachers, find their seats and become familiar with the environment of the new school year. Open House information can be found below or on each school’s Facebook page.
