VINEMONT, Ala. – The Vinemont Town Council on Monday, July 8, approved plans for the town’s annual BBQ Fest and discussed the monthly senior luncheon.

This month’s senior citizens luncheon will be held Monday, July 15, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Vinemont Community Center, located at 88 Ridgeway St.

In true summer fashion, the council has secured smoked Boston butts from local meat supplier, The Butcher Meat Co. for the event. The monthly meal is growing in popularity and is budgeted into the Town’s annual expenditures, allowing the program to continue.

New Councilman Grady Malone asked about the cost of the luncheon.

“Last month, it was about $200,” said Town Clerk Kayecea Sasser. “We had around 57 seniors there.”

Councilman Chris Thompson added, “I have a lot of people tell me they look forward to it.”

After the details of the luncheon were settled, the council moved over to discussions about the town’s annual BBQ Fest, to be held this year on Oct. 26 at the Vinemont Sportsplex. At June’s meeting, the council chose to table discussions on a production company until more research could be done into businesses that can provide their services as a package deal including audio and stage setups.

Thompson championed the return of Baker Productions, the production company from prior years. This month, the council unanimously approved Baker Productions’ bid to provide the town’s annual BBQ Fest with a stage and audio setups totaling $1,700.
