VINEMONT, Ala. – Vinemont has a new town council member. On July 8, Grady Malone was sworn in to take Place 5, the seat former Councilwoman Sonya Copeland unexpectedly vacated last month. Malone was sworn in by Cullman County District Judge Chad Floyd at the council’s regularly scheduled July meeting.

Malone is the second new member of the town council this year. Former Councilwoman Charlotte Cosper resigned from Place 3 back in April.

“Due to circumstances that make me feel less than safe to continue on serving as Council Member, Place No. 3 of the Town of South Vinemont, it is my desire to resign from this council seat. There are circumstances beyond my control that have made me feel uncomfortable to continue in this position,” Cosper’s letter to Vinemont Mayor Radginal Dodson said.

Ross Campbell was appointed to Place 3 in June.

No details were given as to why Copeland resigned.

The next Vinemont Town Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 13, at Vinemont Town Hall. The work session will begin at 5 p.m. and the meeting will follow at 6.
