CULLMAN, Ala. – Recreation lovers in Cullman will soon to be able to enjoy four new covered pickleball courts. The City of Cullman is set to open the courts in early August.

Cullman Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism Executive Director Nathan Anderson shared, “We appreciate Mayor (Woody) Jacobs for leading the way in building additional courts, and we thank the council for their support. We have been diligently working to meet the growing demand for pickleball courts.”

The courts, which will be located next to the Donald E. Green Active Adult Center (1625 Cleveland Ave. SW) near Ingle Park, will be regulation size and surrounded by 6-foot tall fences. There will be an adjacent covered pavilion with picnic table seating to complete the area.

Cullman’s Ingle Park is already home to pickleball courts, but the four new ones will be the first covered courts in the area, allowing pickleballers to play the sport rain or shine.

“We’re excited to be able to provide the first covered pickleball courts in the city,” said Jacobs. “This new facility will allow for people to play year-round, regardless of weather conditions.”

The courts are the latest near-completion project in what will be Cullman’s “Omnisports District.” The district will stretch through the west side of town from Heritage Park to the Active Adult Center, enveloping the Cullman Wellness and Aquatic Center and WildWater. Groundbreaking on the proposed district’s nucleus, the Omniplex Sports and Civic Center, happened in November 2023. The 115,000-square-foot structure will eventually house eight basketball courts, 16 volleyball courts and multiple pickleball courts along with convention and meeting spaces.
