HANCEVILLE, Ala. – The Wallace State Community College Department of Nursing Education is accepting applications for admission to the program in the Spring 2025 semester. Applications will be accepted July 1 through Oct. 1 for three different pathway options: Traditional ADN and PN Nursing and joint enrollment options with both the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Athens State University.
The traditional option offers students the opportunity to earn a certificate in Practical Nursing after completing the first three semesters of the program and sit for the NCLEX-PN licensure exam, allowing them to work in the field as a practical nurse. Students completing the final two semesters of the associate degree option can sit for the NCLEX-RN licensure exam to become a registered nurse.
The UAB/WSCC and the Wallace State/Athens State joint enrollment option allows students to simultaneously complete both an associate degree and bachelor’s degree in nursing. Four semesters of prerequisite courses are required before applying to both WSCC and either UAB or Athens State nursing programs and begin five semesters of nursing courses at both Wallace State and their chosen university partner. Completion of either of these programs allows the student to sit for the NCLEX-RN licensure exam.
As an added incentive, Wallace State Nursing offers paid apprenticeship opportunities to selected nursing students starting in their second semester, with a number of healthcare facilities in north and central Alabama participating.
Minimum application requirements are:
- Traditional ADN/PN for Nursing require a minimum ACT of 18 to apply, a minimum GPA of 2.0 at native institution or 2.0 cumulative at institution from which the student is transferring and 2.5 GPA for nursing required academic courses. A minimum GPA of 2.5 high school cumulative from high school is required for students without prior college courses (GED will be used if applicable).
- The UAB/WSCC Nursing Joint Enrollment and Joint Enrollment Mobility require a minimum ACT of 20, a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA on all college work as well as a 2.5 GPA on nursing required academic core courses. All academic courses must be completed before the application deadline. Joint Enrollment and Joint Enrollment Mobility students must be admitted to both UAB and WSCC.
- The WSCC/ATSU Nursing Joint Enrollment requires a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA for all college course work as well as a minimum GPA of 2.5 for nursing required academic coursework, completion of all required academic courses, and a minimum 20 ACT Composite score or superscore (National or Residual).
