CULLMAN, Ala. – WildWater Cullman on Thursday, June 20, participated in the 15th annual World’s Largest Swimming Lesson (WLSL). The global event, organized by the World Waterpark Association, aims to raise awareness about the critical importance of teaching children to swim as a vital life-saving skill.

The WLSL is a coordinated effort involving waterparks, pools and aquatic facilities worldwide. The event underscores the message that “swimming lessons save lives,” addressing the alarming statistic that drowning is the second leading cause of unintended, injury-related death for children ages 1-14.

Michael Schwitek, general manager of WildWater Cullman, shared, “At WildWater Cullman, our top priority is ensuring the safety of all our guests. We are passionate about providing a safe and enjoyable environment for families. Participating in the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson allows us to emphasize the importance of water safety and the need for every child to learn to swim. This skill is not just about fun; it is a crucial tool in preventing drowning and saving lives.”

The event at WildWater featured a comprehensive swimming lesson led by experienced lifeguards and instructors. The lesson was designed to teach essential swimming skills and water safety practices to children of all ages. Participants received commemorative wristbands to mark the occasion.

Nathan Anderson, executive director of Cullman Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism, said, “WildWater Cullman is a cornerstone of our sports district and community, and events like the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson help us promote a culture of safety and wellness. We are thrilled to host this event and contribute to a global effort that makes a real difference in children’s lives.”
