Funeral Service for Irene Alice Zehr, age 84 of Cullman, will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Allen Kuykendall and Daryl Ross officiating, burial at Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
Mrs. Zehr passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2024, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was born Sunday, August 13, 1939, to Howard Ralph Shallcross and Bertha Mae Shallcross.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years Don Zehr, Sr.; parents; grandson, Jonathan Smith; sister, Ruth Terwilliger; brothers, Charles Shallcross, Eddie Shallcross and Philip Shallcross.
Survivors include her sons, Don (Adonna) Zehr, Jr., and Hank (Lisa) Zehr; daughters, Debbie (Richard) Johnston and Regina (Chip) Johnsey; 10 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; sister Linetta Ross and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
She loved her children unconditionally, but her Grands and Great Grands always brought the biggest smile to her face. After her retirement from CRMC working in admissions, she became an avid quilter, making lap blankets for the elderly, volunteering at Parkside School helping children read and list goes on. She enjoyed her time outside watching the birds and taking care of her flowers.
