WEST POINT, Ala. – The West Point High School Scholars Bowl team will attend the National Academic Quiz Tournaments’ High School National Championship Tournament in Atlanta this weekend, qualifying with its victory at the Cullman County High School Scholar Bowl Tournament, and following its best-ever second place finish at the 2024 NAQT Small School National Championship.  West Point will step into a 320-team field on Friday, May 24, 2024, including other Alabama teams from Arab, Decatur and Madison.

This will be West Point’s eighth trip to the national tournament.

Jeff Hoppes, NAQT vice president for communications, wrote, “Quiz bowl is a competitive, academic, interscholastic activity for teams of four students.  Quiz bowl teams use buzzers to answer questions about science, math, history, literature, mythology, geography, social science, current events, sports, and popular culture.  The matches feature a blend of individual competition and team collaboration, since no individual player is likely to be an expert in all subject areas.  Participation in quiz bowl both reinforces lessons from the classroom and encourages players to develop new intellectual interests.”

According to NAQT, West Point will be represented by Starr Boyd, Sean Harbison, Brodie Henry, Brady Laughlin, John Davis Yovino and Coach Lee Henry.

Tournament results will be updated throughout the three days of competition at www.naqt.com/go/stats/14702 so everyone can follow along and see how the team does.  You can also follow #hsnct on Instagram.
