Dwight Lee Garrett, of Fairview, died May 6 while visiting his daughter and grandsons in Mobile. Dwight was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, but spent his childhood and teenage years in Guntersville, Alabama.
He and his family lived on Short Street, one door down from his future wife, Collette Lewter. They wed in 1981. Dwight provided for his family as a butcher, then manager of the meat department at Kroger for many years. He also served as a volunteer police officer in Cullman County before retiring from Kroger and joining the force full time. In his later years, he enjoyed listening to gospel music, watching Billy Graham sermons, sitting on the porch with his grandkids, and watching them play ball.
Dwight was preceded in death by his parents, Audrey Jenkins Garrett and Frank Moran Garrett, sister Norma Garrett Hutchinson, brothers Glenn Garrett, David Garrett, Danny Garrett and Lewis Garrett, and his son, Jared Chase Garrett. Survivors include his wife, Collette Lewter Garrett, daughter Sommer Garrett Calderone, sister Kathy Garrett Sims, and two grandsons Sawyer Calderone and Slayton Calderone.
The family will hold a private memorial service at a date to be determined.
