CULLMAN, Ala. – If the Shoe Fits held so much more than adorable shoes, clothing and accessories on Thursday, May 2. Vivian Brock, a recent Holly Pond High School graduate, brought her talent to the storefront, in the form of her delectable baked goods from Vivi B Bakes.

Brock had her best friend, Kylee Miller, in tow at the sale, assisting with setting up the freshly made and packaged single cupcakes and assorted cupcake packs in flavors of chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and Brock’s favorite, lemon blueberry, along with chocolate chip cookies and cake pops.

“I’m so excited to be here,” Brock smiled as she sold cupcake after cupcake. “I just started in January and now I can’t keep up sometimes!”

In January 2024, like most teens, Brock was giving her thumbs a workout by scrolling on TikTok and a recipe that was too good to resist came across her algorithm-chosen feed. Knowing her baking skills were limited, the teen threw caution to the wind and deciding to try her hand at baking the beautiful and tasty-looking lemon blueberry cake.

“I decided to give it a try since it would not matter if it was an epic fail,” laughed Brock. “I made this cake and it turned out to be one of the best cakes I have ever had!”

The next morning, a few members of Brock’s family came over to her family’s home to visit, eating some of the sweet confection. Family members shared their praise for Brock’s confections and cakes with their friends, and soon more orders came flooding in for family birthday celebrations, graduation parties and baby showers.

After the name Vivi B Bakes was settled on, Brock wanted her cakes to not only look good, but also taste good. Brock dove head-first into research and experimenting with decorating and creating cakes, creating her own flavor recipes and cake and frosting combinations. Her favorite creation to date is the cake that got her started, the lemon blueberry flavor of cakes and cupcakes.

“It’s the first cake I made; it’s a moist lemon cake with fresh blueberries mixed in and topped with a delicious lemon cream cheese icing,” Brock said.

The novice baker is looking at every order as a means to improvement, knowing that each one sharpens her skills, taking them one step closer to perfection.

She smiled and says, “I’m really all about pushing myself and consistently getting better. I don’t know what the future holds, but for now, I’m just enjoying everything.”

Brock’s cakes are available at her pop-up shops, or they can be found and ordered on Facebook at www.facebook.com/vivibbakes.
