James Marshall Holmes, age 75, of Hanceville, Alabama passed away on Monday, May 6, 2024. James was born in Birmingham, Alabama on March 28, 1949 to Porter Clarence and Virginia Lucille Rascoe Holmes. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Porter Lavone Holmes, Jerry Lamar Holmes, sisters-in-law: Sue Holmes and Jenny Holmes.
Mr. Holmes worked for Nearen Construction for 30 plus years. Mr. Holmes was a decorated combat soldier who served in the United States Army in Vietnam in 1969. Mr. Holmes served in Short Range Reconnaissance (SURPS) attached to the Americal Division.
Funeral services are Friday May 10, 2024, at Moss Service Funeral Home Chapel at 1 p.m. Interment will follow services in Cullman Memory Gardens. Survivors are: son: Mark (Katrina) Stephens, brothers: Larry Wayna (Donna) Holmes, Roger Dale (Terri) Holmes, grandchildren: John Mark Stephens, Annabelle Stephens, Elizabeth Standifer, a host if nieces and nephews, friend: Ashley Nerkry Mills.
Visitation will be on Thursday May 9, 2024, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Moss Service Funeral Home.
