HANCEVILLE, Ala. – At its regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, April 25, the Hanceville City Council updated the community on the community pool, the future of which was uncertain mere months ago. The council also set a planning commission meeting to consider rezoning the Jonathan Black property from R1 to B2.

Public Works Director Rusty Fields updated the council on the status of the community pool, housed at C.W. Day Park. The pool’s future was in question in recent months; the council grappled with the cost of upkeep and maintenance, eventually deciding to hold off on closing the pool for at least one more summer.

“We started painting and it all looks good. We should be ready to open Memorial Day Weekend,” said Fields.

A planning commission meeting was set to consider rezoning the Jonathan Black property from residential zoning to business zoning. The meeting is set for June 15.

The council also approved all bills and expenditures that were incurred since the previous meeting, as well as the payment of an outstanding invoice from Mobile Communications America.

The 26th annual Antique Tractor Show will take place June 8. Organizer Charles Allen said, “We’re hoping to have a good show this year, so if anyone has any questions let me know.”

Two pieces of old business were tabled, once again, by the council. Ordinance 2024-1, the annexation for The Broadway Group and a Charter Franchise Agreement.

The next Hanceville City Council Meeting will be held on May 9. The work session will begin at 5 p.m. with the meeting beginning at 5:30.
