GORDO, Ala. – The Vinemont Eagles traveled to Gordo for a round one playoff matchup Friday night but after dropping game one to the Greenwave 11-1, Vinemont fell in game two 8-2 to finish a strong season 17-8.
Gordo 11 – Vinemont 1 (Game One)
After a scoreless first inning, Gordo plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the second to take a 2-0 lead into the third. Gordo stretched its lead to 4-0 with a pair of sacrifice flies in the bottom of the third and the Greenwave continued adding to their lead in the fourth, pushing four more runs across the plate to make it an 8-0 game.
Michael Foust drove an RBI single to left field to bring Kayden Henderson home and trim the lead to 8-1 in the fifth, but Gordo responded with two more runs in their half of the inning to make it a 10-1 game going into the sixth. The Greenwave pushed one more run across the plate in the bottom of the sixth to cap an 11-1, game one win over Vinemont.
Foust (one RBI), Henderson, Jake Hale and Rush Sandlin each posted a hit for the Eagles in the loss.
Gordo 8 – Vinemont 2 (Game Two)
Gordo took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with a sacrifice fly but neither team could get much going at the plate until Jake Hale tied things up with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth. The Greenwave responded with four runs in the fifth to move back in front 5-1.
Josh Rhodes, Hayden Robinson, Kayden Henderson and Michael Foust strung together four straight singles to lead off the bottom of the fifth and cut the lead to 5-2. After a scoreless sixth inning, Gordo stretched its lead to 8-2 in the top of the seventh and the Eagles were unable to overcome the lead in the final frame. Vinemont finishes the season 17-8.
Hale (two hits) and Foust (one hit) each finished with an RBI in the loss. Henderson, Rhodes, Robinson and Jaxon Holcomb added hits as well.
