Obituary: Betty Jean Wamp Holt

Betty Jean Wamp Holt, 89, passed away peacefully April 2, 2024. She was born May 5, 1934 in Cullman, Alabama. Jean graduated from Cullman High School in 1952, and Birmingham Southern in 1956 with a degree in Education and later received a Masters in secondary education from UAB. She was an outstanding and beloved educator at Cullman High School, East Elementary School and Vinemont Elementary School. After retirement she taught courses at Wallace state and was a supervising teacher at Athens State.

Jean was an avid ballroom dancer and dance enthusiast teaching and performing around the world on cruise ships, and performing around Cullman County and North Alabama with the First United Methodist Dance Troupe that she founded. Jean was an active member of the Cullman community volunteering at the Margaret Jean Jones Center, the Donald E Green center and anywhere she could meet new friends.

Jean was preceded in death by her Father, Martine Wamp and Mother Jackie Tillman Wamp.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years Dodd Holt; sister, Ola Mae Wamp Quattlebaum; brother, Joe Wamp; children: Mitch Holt (Ann), Clif Holt (Stephanie), Ginger Holt ((Lauren); grandchildren: Savannah Holt Soper (Steve), Kara Holt, Kyle Holt, Jamie Jean Holt, Theodore Holt and Tillman Holt; great grandchildren: Lola Soper, Rex Soper and Ace Soper; and a host of other family members and friends.

Visitation will be held Saturday, April 13 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. with a service to immediately follow at 2 p.m. at Moss Funeral Home, burial to follow in Cullman City Cemetery.
