Funeral services for Cody Lowell Self (SPC) will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 5th at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow the service at Shelton Grove Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be Thursday, April 4th from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Hanceville Funeral Home.
Cody L. Self, a devoted family man and outdoor enthusiast of Bremen, Alabama passed away on April 1, 2024, at the age of 33. His love for his family will forever be remembered. Born on August 25, 1990, in Cullman, Alabama, Cody was the beloved son of Cathy Lucas and Lowell Self. Growing up, Cody developed a deep appreciation for the outdoors, which would become a defining part of his life.
Cody was a loving and supportive father to his children, Abby, Anna, and Aylix. He cherished every moment spent with them; whether it was camping, hiking, or teaching them to succeed. His children were his pride and joy, and his love for them knew no bounds. In addition to his love for his family and hobbies, Cody was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. His generosity and kindness touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Cody served his country with distinction as a member of the United States Army during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He bravely faced the challenges of war, demonstrating courage, resilience, and selflessness in the face of adversity. For his courageous service, he was awarded two purple hearts, a testament to his bravery and his sacrifice.
Cody’s memory will forever be cherished by his loving children, Abby Self, Anna Self, and Aylix Self; parents, Cathy Lucas (Steve) and Lowell Anthony Self; siblings, Amanda Jansenius (Jason), Jena Blaylock (Eric) and Anna Cowen; and sister-in-law, Jamatha Jones.
Mr. Self was preceded in death by his brother, Tony Self.
