CULLMAN, Ala. – On Thursday, March 28, Cullman Mayor Woody Jacobs, Cullman Economic Development Agency Director Dale Greer, other community officials and members of the Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce gathered at the new Cobblestone Hotel and Suites to officially cut the ribbon and welcome the business to Cullman.

“This has been a fun project,” said Jacobs. “Thank you for building this here, we have always wanted something in this area. We feel like this will be a win.”

The project has been in development for close to two years, and was announced in August of 2022. Greer touched on the work of City leaders, advancement of Cullman Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism and willingness to adapt and change to draw tourism and stimulate growth, saying that is what ultimately called Cobblestone Hotel and Suites to Cullman.

“You have to have an administration that is willing to take those ideas and make them happen, and we’ve had that for many years,” said Greer. “I think that’s a real compliment to Cullman and how we got where we are.”

President of Development for Cobblestone Hotels Jeremy Griesbach talked about Cullman’s hospitality; he said choosing Cullman as the location for a new hotel was due to the kindness and community that he encountered while vacationing from his home state of Wisconsin. Hoping to bring that hospitality and kindness to his hotel brand, Griesbach struck a deal with City officials and broke ground on the first Cobblestone property in the state of Alabama.

“What was really cool when we got to Cullman was the pride that everyone seemed to have in your town and how much you believe in your town and how excited you all were,” Griesbach chuckled. “I don’t want to say you were trying to sell Cullman to me, but they were. Everyone you talked to, they were genuine and true about how excited they were about Cullman, the history of it, what it is now and what it’s going to be. The growth I’ve seen over the past two years leaves me no doubt that this is going the right way.”

The new lodging accommodations are in a perfect position to support the city’s sports tourism, as it is within walking distance or a short drive to Heritage Park, WildWater and the Field of Miracles. With a swimming pool, fitness center, a conference room large enough to comfortably fit 16, as well as a full-service steakhouse restaurant on property, Cobblestone plans to alleviate tourism congestion along Alabama Highway 157, while showcasing the appeal and amenities of the city’s southern end. The hotel boasts 63 rooms, consisting of double, queen and king bed rooms and suites, comfortably sleeping groups of up to six people.

The location of the property is not the only first for the chain; this is the first partnership of Cobblestone Hotels and Suites and Wissota Chophouse, the upscale steakhouse that is attached to the hotel.

“The other thing that is a first for us in the state of Alabama, is Wissota Chophouse. We were very excited to bring that,” said Griesbach.

Cobblestone Hotel and Suites is located at 1835 Main Ave. SW.
