CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman County Public Library Board at its meeting on Thursday, March 21, announced the hiring of Assistant Director Shelby Creekmore, who will start April 1.
According to Director Amber Thornton, Creekmore is “goal oriented, had experience in project and staff management and was already attending additional training in grant writing.”
Creekmore’s first months at the library will be spent training in library operations and knowledge.
Thornton said she had hoped to provide an update on the library’s financial reports, but said she “has yet to receive or find a current financial report although she had reached out to the accounting firm.”
A motion for Thornton to be added to the library’s financial accounts as a signer and card carrier, in order to take care of the library’s day-to-day operations, was approved.
The board also reviewed the need for a new bookmobile, as the current vehicle is badly damaged and in need of repairs. The board agreed to allocate the funds to acquire a new bookmobile to service the community.
Thornton asked the board for permission to begin the process of repairing/replacing the windows and bookshelves damaged in an August 2023 storm. Funds would need to be released to purchase shelving to hold the nonfiction books currently held in storage. A motion was made and approved.
The next Cullman County Public Library Board meeting will be held April 18, at noon, in the special collections room of the main branch of the Cullman County Public Library.
