Helen Charlene Koen, of Holly Pond, Alabama, passed away on March 9, 2024, at the age of 87. Ms. Koen was born in Winston County, Alabama, on Nov. 19, 1936, to Roy Samuel and Mamie Ada Taylor Puckett.
Ms. Koen was a loyal member of the Highway 157 Church of Christ Church family and attended faithfully as long as her health allowed. As a child, Helen dreamed of becoming a nurse and she used her compassion and empathy for others throughout her life. She took care of anyone who needed her to with great skill, gentleness, and kindness. Ms. Koen used her skills as an in-home caregiver for several years and her nurturing nature was always present as she mothered her children. Helen raised five children and her family knew they could always call on her when they needed her. She loved her family dearly, and the love and care she has always shown them will be a part of their memories for eternity.
Ms. Koen was welcomed into heaven by her parents; husbands, Carlos Johnson, Amos Cockrell, and John Koen; son, David Johnson; brothers, Joe Puckett, Eugene Puckett, Dwight Puckett; and sisters, Maxine Bobo, and Jewel Waldrop.
Those surviving Ms. Koen includes her children, Gary Johnson, Tony Johnson (Kim), Frankie Johnson (Peggy), Debbie Trenam (Jim), Regina Johnson; grandchildren, Keith Barbee, Jennifer Huffstutler (Josh), Johnathan Johnson, Misty Fletcher (Jimmy), Stacey Moffett (Chris), Charity Johnson, Madison Matson (Tyler); fourteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren with another arriving soon; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to join the family for a time of visitation on Thursday evening, March 14, 2024, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., in the Holly Pond Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Friday, March 15, 2024, in the Holly Pond Funeral Home Chapel, with Joe Shane officiating. Ms. Koen will lie in state an hour prior to services, from 1 p.m., until services begin. Burial will follow services in Johnson’s Grove Cemetery.
