FAIRVIEW, Ala. – Cullman County student leaders gathered at Fairview High School Friday, March 8, for the second annual Cullman County Youth Leadership Conference.
Fairview teacher Whitney Haynes said this year’s speaker, Nicole Pinkham, challenged students to “Know yourself, lead yourself and make a difference.”
Before the event, she said, “Each school has the option to send up to 25 student leader delegates to participate in the daylong event. Following the lunch sponsored by Merchants Bank at Fairview First Baptist Church, students will have the opportunity to participate in workshops led by leaders in our community. Topics include – professional etiquette, employability skills, professional dress, social media, understanding the interview process, resume building, customer service, time management and ‘finding your why.’”
Haynes said the participating students represented their schools well.
“I really think we are sending students back to their schools with a better understanding of leadership and how they can make a difference in their families, schools and communities,” she said. “Nicole shared with the kids they should be ‘a leader worth following,’ and I think that really resonated.”
Fairview teacher Shannon Black said it was a wonderful experience.
“We hosted the leadership conference with over 200 students, teachers and speakers,” Black said. “They shared in an awesome day of leadership training and fun. All the students were so impressive.”
Haynes extended thanks to the following sponsors for making this event possible: Merchants Bank – lunch for students, bus drivers, speakers and sponsors; Daystar Church – Snacks for break; The National Guard; Josten’s – door prizes; Aggie Ambassadors – door prizes; and Wallace State Community College. She also thanked Cullman County Schools Superintendent Dr. Shane Barnette, Dr. Johnny Whaley, Rep. Randall Shedd, the Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce and Fairview FCCLA.
