Lea Ellan (Pruett) Smith, of Holly Pond, Alabama, passed away peacefully at her home on March 4, 2024. Lea Ellan was born on Nov. 17, 1939 in Cullman, Alabama.

She was a lifelong member of Holly Pond Baptist Church.

Lea Ellan leaves behind her husband of 60 years, Ronald Ray Smith and their children, Ladonna Smith Glenn, Rhonda Smith Hawkins (Riley), and Ronald Ray Smith Jr. (Kris). She was known as MawMaw to her grandchildren: Pruett Allen (Sara), Brandi Jones, Katie Brooks (Michael), John Hawkins (Leia), Sydney Stoffer (Max), Ross Hawkins (Anna), Dean Smith (Kacie), and seven great-grandchildren: Henry Allen, Bentley Jones, Allison Jones, Daphne Brooks, Caroline Allen, Rhett Hawkins, Adeline Hawkins and Baby Stoffer on the way.

After graduating from Fairview High School in 1958, Lea Ellan attended Auburn University. She married Ronald on August 29, 1964. Her children, who like many others refer to her as Greer, will always remember the warm home she provided them. Her care-free spirit and raspy, infectious laugh will never be forgotten. She was the epitome of a sweet, southern grandmother.

Summers by the pool with plenty of ice cream sandwiches, adventures in the Cadillac, and late nights watching television are a staple in her grandchildren’s minds. She always made sure you were well fed – even at times over-fed. She was loving and supportive to them all. The only time they recall her not being in good spirits is if they touched her hair! An avid Auburn football fan, you would find her in the fall making cornbread in the kitchen while the radio blared a game. When it was time to leave, she always walked you to your car, waving and yelling “Buh Bye!” until you were out of site.

She was an adoring daughter, sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, and friend. She will be missed by so many. She was loved dearly and will be warmly welcomed into Heaven by her parents, Leamon Lester “Chick” and Ownie B. Pruett, and older brother Larry Lynn Pruett.

Viewing will be from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at Holly Pond Funeral Home. Funeral to follow with Samuel Tucker officiating. Burial to follow in Holly Pond Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Pruett Allen, Michael Brooks, John Hawkins, Ross Hawkins, Dean Smith, and Max Stoffer.

Mrs. Smith’s obituary was lovingly written by her family.

Holly Pond Funeral Home is honored to serve the Smith family.
