CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman City Council on Monday approved an ordinance to govern “mobile vendors (food trucks), pushcarts, ice cream trucks and mobile business units.” Over a dozen mobile food vendors are currently operating on a regular basis in the city, and the ordinance also covers mobile versions of car washers/detailers, auto glass repair services, barbers, hair and nail salons, and pet groomers.
Among other rules, the ordinance requires mobile business operators to purchase licenses, observe traffic regulations, get permission before parking on private property and comply with safety and health regulations. Operators are prohibited from blocking driveways, hindering traffic flow, offering drive-through service or external seating or operating within 300 feet of the entrances to established restaurants (if selling food). Operators are also required to maintain liability insurance.
The council also approved a resolution to add a new cheer academy instructor to the staff of Cullman Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism.
In other business, the council approved a request from Juliane Phillips for the annual Kaleb’s 5K run/walk on April 20, 2024, along with resolutions and ordinances to:
- Approve a change order for Jim Cooper Construction to increase the size of the power transformer at the new Cullman Civic Center
- Authorize the mayor to enter into a new lease agreement with J & R Feeds located near Cullman Middle School
- Rezone Blue Hole, LLC property on U.S. Highway 278 from AG-1 to AG-2
The council gave first readings to two proposed ordinances, and will vote on them at the next meeting:
- Approve the back-to-school sales tax holiday for the third full weekend in each July
- State penalties and interest for delinquent tax filings in the City’s code of ordinances
The Cullman City Council will meet next Monday, Feb. 19, 2024, at 7 p.m. in the city hall auditorium. The public is invited to attend.
