CULLMAN, Ala. – Local nonprofit Flourish of Cullman will host its Mardi Gras Bingo and Silent Auction event on Saturday, April 6.

Flourish aims to bring awareness, acceptance and support to the differently abled community, no matter their abilities. Its mission statement reads, “Flourish of Cullman, Inc. provides community-based support to individuals with differing abilities who would like to live as independently as possible.” And its core values state, “We believe that individuals with differing abilities  are primarily individuals deserving of dignity and respect.  They can create and develop their own vision and dreams for their lives and can learn how to manage their own home life. These individuals can learn how to perform actual jobs with competitive pay and how to be social among friends within social settings.”

At its annual fundraiser, purple and green feathers, beads and masks will adorn the tables and other décor while big band brass plays in the background. There will also be a traditional Cajun shrimp boil and beignets.

The benefit will raise funds for Flourish’s new residential evaluation facility, designed to evaluate differently abled individuals to determine their needs when deciding to live independently.

A costume contest is scheduled to liven the evening, recognizing guests dressed in their Mardi Gras best; prizes will be given, courtesy of Flourish. Former East Elementary Principal David Wiggins will call bingo for the gathering. There will also be a popular 360-degree photo booth.

“You can go as big and flashy as you want, with feathers and masks, or you can do a more subtle take on the Mardi Gras theme,” said Flourish Executive Director Melissa Dew. “It’s going to be a great night of coming together to get these individuals the circle of support they need.”

The Flourish of Cullman Mardi Gras Bingo and Silent Auction will be held in the Traditions Bank building on Saturday, April 6, beginning at 6 p.m. For tickets, contact Flourish at 250-735-4186. Tickets are $75 each or $500 for a table of eight. Each guest will receive full bidding access to the silent auction items as well as one bingo card; additional bingo cards may be purchased.
