VINEMONT, Ala. – Early Monday morning a two-car collision took place just outside of the Cullman Area Technology Academy (CATA), which caused one of the cars to hit a bus carrying students to the Cullman County Child Development Center (CDC).

According to Senior State Trooper Brandon Bailey, the crash occurred at approximately 8:12 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5, causing road blockage.

Cullman County Schools Superintendent Dr. Shane Barnette spoke to The Tribune shortly after the collision to reassure the public that no students were injured, despite a local Facebook page sending many parents into a panic after publishing partial information.

“After two cars collided while crossing Highway 31, one of the cars deflected into one of our CDC buses. I am thankful that no one on our bus was injured,” he said. “Our bus driver did an excellent job and all of our students were safe.”

Barnette stated the bus only has minor damage, which is repairable.

“My prayers go out for the drivers of the cars that had to be transported via ambulance; however, my understanding is that they didn’t have life-threatening injuries,” said Barnette.

Both drivers were taken to area hospitals to be checked out while none on the bus were injured.

The Cullman Police Department along with deputies with the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office helped work the scene while ALEA State Troopers conducted its investigation into the collision.

More information will be released after ALEA concludes its investigation.
