CULLMAN, Ala. – With dwindling stocks at local food banks, the United Way of Cullman County has stepped in for its second annual “Spread the Love” communitywide food drive, which will take place Sunday, Feb. 4-Saturday, Feb. 10. The United Way is hoping to beat its numbers from last year and collect over 5,000 pounds of canned and dry goods to help community members in need.
Taylor Johnson, resource development and outreach manager at United Way, said the food drive is an opportunity to help meet needs that others might not see in the community. With local food banks like Cullman Caring for Kids, St. Vincent de Paul and Master’s Hand seeing an increasing rise in need, it’s not a moment too soon.
“The community has the opportunity to meet the needs of its neighbors who live in need and often suffer in silence,” explained Johnson, who also emphasized the United Way’s own need for additional collection sites where residents can drop off dry or canned goods.
“We have an ongoing list of drop-off locations. If you are a business and would like to take the time to give back to your community, please allow us to bring a box to collect donations at your location. Every donation makes a difference,” she said.

- canned vegetables
- canned fruits
- canned meats
- pasta
- pasta sauce
- macaroni and cheese
- peanut butter
- crackers
- granola bars
- shelf-stable milks
- cereals
- baby purees
