Winter Weather Advisories will be expiring across eastern and southeastern sections between 9 am – 12 pm.
Wind Chill Advisories and Hard Freeze Warnings for most of state into Wednesday morning.
The good news is that at 6 am temperatures remain above freezing south of an Andalusia – Troy – Auburn line. Although precipitation will continue into mid to late morning, there should be only be 2-4 hours of light freezing rain in southeastern Alabama before the precipitation ends. There will be some snow flurries across portions of central and northern Alabama this morning, with no additional accumulations.
High temperatures today will remain below freezing north of a Demopolis – Selma – Alexander City – Wedowee line, with temperatures dropping into the middle to upper 30s south of this line. Low temps tonight will range from 0 degrees north to upper teens south.
Winds statewide by later this morning will increase to 10-15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph, continuing through tonight. Combined with decreasing cloud cover this afternoon and sunny skies Wednesday, this should aid in drying out roadways. Still many icy locations will continue well into Wednesday.
The combination of wind and temperatures will produce wind chill values from 10 degrees to -10 degrees into Wednesday morning.
Wednesday – Highs from the lower 30s north to middle 40s at the coast. Lows from the middle teens north to upper 20s at the coast.
Thursday – Highs from the lower 40s north to upper 50s at the coast. Lows in the lower 20s north to middle 40s at the coast.
The next system will bring rain to the state Thursday afternoon into Friday morning. There could be a period of mixed winter precipitation well north of I-59 before the precipitation ends, but confidence is currently low on any wintry precipitation. This will be followed by another arctic blast of cold air.
Highs on Friday will be in the upper 20s north to middle 50s at the coast. Highs Saturday will be lower 20s north to lower 40s at the coast. Lows Friday and Saturday will be single digits north to lower 20s at the coast.
