CULLMAN, Ala. – A local man, known to many for his involvement in the Jack Aces Motorcycle Club and its philanthropic endeavors, is battling cancer and his community is coming together to support him. On Jan. 27, everyone is invited to have a day and evening of fun at Brick Haven Venue in support of Derrick Barton, a father, friend and husband who was recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.

“We’ll be doing a motorcycle show and audio competition, cornhole tournament, pool tournament, mechanical bull and concert,” said Ben Wilson, one of Barton’s co-workers and one of the event’s organizers.

The #BartonStrong Benefit Bike Show and Concert will include a pool tournament, cornhole tournament and bike show for riders to showcase their road-worthy or decked-out motorcycles; an audio competition will add a little spice to a traditional bike show. Registration will begin at 11 a.m. with the competitions following at 1 p.m. The quest for the cornhole champ begins at 2, and the search for the master of pool is at 3:30. Cost to enter the cornhole and pool tournaments is $15 per entry, with the entrants for the bike and audio competitions paying $25 per class entry. All proceeds will support Barton and his cancer treatment.

A live concert will be rocking throughout the evening, beginning at 5. While there is a cover charge to attend the concert, any competition entrants from the earlier events will receive an armband giving them free entry into the concert. The lineup includes acoustic 90s rock cover band Don’t Think Twice, the married duet Justin and Tab and local bands Secondhand Vinyl and the Oxmoor Trio. Alcohol will be available for purchase during the concert by any guest who is 21 years of age or older with a valid ID.

“Food Truck Row,” as Wilson has dubbed it, will house four local food trucks. The Street Kitchen serving up juicy burgers and cheesesteaks, Carnival Cravings frying up favorite festival treats, A.G.‘s Kettle Corn of Blountsville popping and dishing out hot kettle corn and Hartselle’s Da Big Italian showing who’s boss with its traditional Italian-style hot dogs and toppings.

Said Wilson, “We’ll have a big pile of door prizes to give away, some incredible raffle items and some killer trophies for our bike show and audio competition. We are here to have fun, and raise money and it gives everyone a chance to get their 2024 setups dialed in. Bring what you’ve got and let’s have fun!”
